Longfellow is home to 57 military families, all of whom come with a unique set of circumstances. We have now achieved The Distinguished Purple Star Award, for excellence in establishing a school culture dedicated to meeting the transitional needs of military connected students.
LMS Chamber Orchestra Participating in the Midwest Clinic

What began in 1946 as 120 music directors meeting for six hours in a Chicago YWCA gym has now become the annual four-day music band and orchestra conference known as The Midwest Clinic International Band, Orchestra and Music Conference. For over 70 years, musicians, educators and people passionate about music education of all skill levels have gathered in Chicago for the largest music conference of its kind.

South Lakes Food Pantry Branches Out with Healthy Eating Workshops
When South Lakes High School’s PTSA established a Food Pantry in 2017, its goal was to help students avoid hunger by distributing nonperishable food items and toiletries to students in need. This year, thanks to a Delta Dream Grant from the Washington Nationals Dream Foundation, healthy eating workshops were provided to students by community organizations.
