February 24-February 28, 2020- Longfellow counselors will provide an overview of 8th grade courses and conduct individual academic advising with students, through Science class.  Students will register for classes electronically through StudentVUE at this time.  We believe that parent involvement in the course selection process is crucial.  Please discuss course requests with your student and reach out to their counselor or teacher(s) if you have questions.  Parents/guardians must log onto their child’s StudentVUE if they wish to make changes.  Final course requests must be entered in StudentVUE by February 28, 2020.  The on-line system will be closed after that time.  Parents will have an opportunity to make changes the week of June 1, 2020.  More details regarding that process will be forthcoming.

Core academic classes: English, Science, Civics, and Health and PE will be automatically entered in StudentVUE.   Students do not need to register for these classes.

Math recommendations: Current math teachers will provide math placement recommendations for students.  Staff will enter these recommendations in StudentVUE in February.  Students/parents/guardians may change the math class in StudentVUE, but we strongly advise that you speak to the math teacher about any changes.  Math teacher recommendations may also change at the end of the year based on student progress.  Counselors will work with students and families to ensure that changes are made.

Elective courses: Entering elective course requests in StudentVUE is not a guarantee of placement in those courses.  We make every effort to place students in their top elective choices, but sometimes they are placed in alternate elective choices based on course availability or scheduling conflicts.  Please consider all course requests, including alternate electives, seriously.

Academic support courses: Students may also be recommended to take academic support classes in place of an elective.  Counselors/teachers will contact parents/guardians individually to discuss those courses, as needed.

Special Education: If your student receives Special Education services, their schedule is subject to change based on their IEP.

ESOL: If your student receives ESOL support, their schedule is subject to change based on WIDA results.
