Purple Star School: Supporting Military Families
Longfellow goes above and beyond to support military-connected students and their families. We understand the unique challenges faced by children of military families. By achieving Purple Star status, Longfellow demonstrates its commitment to creating a stable, welcoming environment where military students can thrive both academically and emotionally.
VMEA Blue Ribbon Performing Arts Program
Longfellow’s performing arts are rated as “Blue Ribbon” by the VMEA. Over 50% of our students participate in a performing art class.
AVID: Empowering Longfellow Students
We are in our 3 year of implementing the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program. We offer AVID as an elective course for selected 7th and 8th grade students through an application process. Although not all students are enrolled in AVID, all teachers utilize the AVID WICOR strategies within their daily lessons. WICOR stands for Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading. It's a learning model to help students develop skills for college and career readiness.

PBIS - Student of the Month - Legendary Lancers, weekly school store with a variety of offerings, weekly raffles for students and monthly raffles for teachers. Including student input from SCA and Raising Student Voices.
Raising Student Voices: A Force for Good at Longfellow
This group is composed of Longfellow students that identifies problems and creates solutions. Staff support and advise students as they learn to advocate for change at LMS.
Building a Community of Respect and Tolerance
No Place for Hate: Longfellow is a certified “no place for hate” school. A program that engages students and staff in dialogue and active learning on the topics of bias, bullying, inclusion and allyship that matter most to your community.
A Collaborative Effort: Longfellow and PTA
We work very closely with our PTA and collaborate on many school events - Open House, Back to School Night and Principal Coffees just to name a few. The PTA supports our teachers by offering stipends, material reimbursements and grants to help offset the cost of classroom materials.
