Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) Testing: Spring, 2023
Seventh and eighth grade students will be taking the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) Tests at Longfellow Middle School starting May 3.
Students will test on a modified bell schedule from 7:30 - 9:25.
The SOL schedule is as follows - ALL tests must be taken at Longfellow MS.
- May XX: Reading 7/8
- May XX: Science 8
- May XX: All Math classes (Math 7, Math 7HN, PreAlgebra, Algebra 1, Geometry and Algebra 2)
Make Up SOLs - If students are unable to test on the scheduled dates, they will have an opportunity to test between April 22 and May 24.
All Make-Up SOL testing will begin at 7:30 AM - Students should report to the lecture hall after announcements have been made.
Retakes: The Virginia Board of Education allows elementary and middle school students who fail their spring Standards of Learning (SOL) tests by a narrow margin to retake the test before the end of the school year. Retesting is available when a student fails their first SOL attempt with a score of 375-399. (A score of 400 is considered passing for SOL tests.) Note that retests are not offered for fall or winter Virginia Growth Assessment (VGA) tests.
Parent/guardian permission is required for the school to retest any student in grades 3-8. If you believe that your student would benefit from a second opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and skills on the spring SOL test, please complete this permission form and return it to the school. A decision not to allow retesting will not impact your student’s course grade or academic record.
Right to Refusal: Parents have the right to refuse SOL testing. The Right to Refuse Assessments webpage (https://www.fcps.edu/node/34277) offers important information as you consider this decision. If you do not want your child to take one or more SOL tests, Please complete this form and return it to @email. For general information regarding SOL testing, please see the FCPS website (https://www.fcps.edu/node/35021).
